Microsoft Windows Users and iYogi Predict a Surge in Tech Support for Windows 7 Upgrades

Fix a PST File Automatically With Outlook’s Inbox Repair Tool

This post provides a step-by-step tutorial on how to use the included Outlook Inbox Repair Tool, also known as Scanpst.exe and microsoft outlook support for .PST file.

From time to time, the .pst or Personal Folders file used for everything (email, calendar, contacts, tasks & more) in Outlook gets corrupted, damaged, or otherwise negatively affected on a seemingly regular basis.

Luckily there’s the fortuitously included “Inbox Repair Tool” from Microsoft. The bad news is it’s buried in the bowels of your hard drive’s Program Files folder.

The Outlook ScanPst.exe .PST Recovery Tool
To get at it, you’ll need to navigate to this path using Windows Explorer:
For Outlook XP & 2003: Hard Drive Letter:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\LocaleID (which is 1033 for the USA or similar)
For Outlook 2007: Hard Drive Letter:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE12Now, inside this folder, you’re looking for this particular setup file: “Scanpst.exe” When you run the .exe, you’ll need to Browse… to your current .pst file and hit Start:

How to Remove Deleted Messages Automatically

Configure Outlook Express to automatically removed deleted messages when you exit the software.When you delete messages, such as e-mail messages, in Outlook Express in Windows XP, the messages normally are not deleted immediately but placed in a “Deleted Items” folder.

To insert an image inline in an email with Outlook:

  • Start with a message using HTML formatting.
  • Position the cursor where you want the image to appear.
  • Go to the Insert tab.
  • Click Picture.
  • Find and highlight the desired image.
  1. You can highlight multiple images using the Ctrl key and insert them all at once.
  2. If your image is larger than some 640×640 pixels, consider shrinking it to more handy proportions.
  • Click Insert.

To insert an image found on a web site:

  1. Start with a message using HTML formatting.
  2. Open the web page containing the desired picture.
  3. Drag and drop the image from the web page in your browser to the desired location in your email message.
  • Alternatively, click on the image with the right mouse button and select Copy from the context menu, then press Ctrl-V with the cursor at the point where you want to insert the image in your Outlook message.

How to Remove or Restore the “Tools | Accounts” Menu in Outlook Express

All you wanted was to add a new account to Outlook Express. Now you’re in the middle of solving a perplexing riddle: the Accounts… item has disappeared from the Tools menu. This post provide Outlook Email Support to remove or Restore Tools | Account.

Send and Receive, Options…, Message Rules and what not: they’re all there; Accounts… has gone. It has not gone for good, though. The most likely reason for the menu item’s disappearance is an innocent registry key — which you can change to bring the Accounts… menu item back, or to hide it in the first place to prevent changes.

Note: if you have a system administrator and are not sure they’re not involved in the Accounts… menu item’s disappearance, do talk to them. They may have a reason for restricting access.

Remove or Restore the “Tools | Accounts…” Menu Item in Outlook Express

To bring back the Accounts… item in Outlook Express’s Tool menu or remove it:

  • Make sure Outlook Express is not running.
  • Press Windows-R.
  • Type “regedit”.
  • Click OK.
  • Go to the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\­SOFTWARE\­Microsoft\­Outlook Express key.
  • Locate the No modify accts value.
  • If you cannot find No modify accts in the list, select Edit | New | DWORD Value from the menu, type “No modify accts” (not including the quotation marks) and press Enter.
    • Double-click No modify accts.
    • Type
    • o ‘1′ (without quotation marks) to remove or
    • o ‘0′ (excluding that quotation marks) to restore
    • the Accounts… menu item.
    • Start Outlook Express.
